The Heart Healthy Program has been concluded.Thank you for your paerticipation. Results will be posted shortly.
Any worthwhile journey always starts with the first step. We are still in the very early stage of the program and as seen below, we've started to garner some momentum. It is still quite early to pass judgement on the effectiveness of the program. Stay focused and keep in mind, it's not all about losing weight but starting healthy habits to live better. Stay tuned as we shift gears soon.
Stage I: Pre-contemplation: You don’t exercise, nor do you have any plans to exercise in the near future. You are making excuses and continue to rationalize i. e. busy at work, it is in my genes, “ I work night shifts”, “my hormones are mess up”, I am okay.“my husband cooks all the time” etc.
We nurses are tasked with guiding our patients towards a healthier lifestyle. We come in contact with patients and their families empowered with knowledge regarding a better way towards a better future yet in a study, thirty percent of the respondents had an overweight BMI, 18.7% an obese BMI, and 5.2% a morbidly obese BMI. Thus, almost 54% of the nurse respondents were overweight or obese compared with the national statistics of 65% of the US population.(Miller, Alpert, & Cross, 2008)
This is the issue that the Healthy Heart Healthy Family program attempts to address, hence the phrase. “Walk theTalk.” Our words our only as strong as the credibility we put behind it. In the next 6 months we invite you through a journey of transformation into the healthier nurses we always wanted to be. Come join us?
